How much ICT should children be exposed to?

Are today’s children facing technology overload, or simply gearing themselves up for life in a digital world? back in the days parents were faced with their own dilemmas on the use of ICT. Parents of yesteryear were warned about deploying the television as an unpaid babysitter. Nowadays families have more than one screen in the living room to worry about, the home environment now consists of PCs, smartphones, tablets and games consoles are all part of the fabric of daily life for today’s children. Infants of an age take a minute to work out how the smart phone works and can open it with their finger without being showed. it is now given to them as a toy to play with and keep amused when out as I have previously witness, the days were children run freely are not so common. from personal experience children are under tables or in the corner with a  group of friends at a function on the Ipads. Where’s the communication? my day we were to run around away from parents and were able to greet and communicate with new children.

exposure leads to an increased risk of developing autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Although Educators have highlighted how technology can improve interaction between child and parent, and provide essential life skills, such as enhanced communication and multitasking.

People are left with conflicting messages, amid anxieties about what’s best for our children. But how much technology is too much technology for children? There’s enough research to say that it could have long-term detrimental effects, and you don’t know if it will, but safety is the best policy. As an Educator at a maximum children should spend no more than two hours a day in front of screens of any type. Before the age of two, it should be a lot less than that – none at all even – and should be kept below two hours until they’re at least into double figures. What do you think a potential Educator the time should be?
